Sound Artists
Sjaak Jöbses
Sunday 01/11 at 12.00 u Atelierhaus Aachen – ArtClub
Sjaak studies Sonologie at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. He composes sounds while using algorithmic processes and collages of concrete sound. Currently Sjaak is researching the similarities and contrasts between “stochastic synthetical processes” (a high level arbitrariness, but with a certain goal) with and recordings of concrete sounds. He developes his own soft- and hardware in order to compose and perform live on stage. At the Atelierhaus Aachen he will present an interactive light performance. He will explore the field of analoge movement in combination with light. The different sensors will translate the intensity of light towards a row of parameters resulting in the synthese and sample process. The registered movement will guarantee an interaction with the parameter model and generate sounds. www.rxj.nl

Hubert Steins creates spatial soundinstallations which enrich the auditive perception, by using media-theoretical and fenomenological processes since 1998. In order to virtually split up the exhibition space, these installations generate sound via 4 or 8 tracks, by using random processes. www.hubert-steins.de

Kaspar König
Sunday 29/11 at 16.00 u Intro in situ music and sound Maastricht
Kaspar Konig is interested in transformation and (re-)combination. With the “stuff” he finds in his daily context, he starts a dialogue. Since Kaspar gets more out of the stuff then their use superficialy suggest, these objects are cherished longer in his life. He also changes stuff auditorial. His background of industrial designer helps him realise these projects and transformations. The output of cross cultural heritage, he also loves to travel around the world, becomes more visible by the way old materials are re-used. Trash of all around the world is transformed into a broad, epic and resonating capital. www.kasparkoenig.com
Mike Kramer
Sunday 29/11 at 16.00 u Intro in situ music and sound Maastricht
Mike Kramer presents Whispering wall III (2009). The concept of ‘whispering wall’ is to capture micro sounds hidden in the region where normal hearing won’t allow us. In daily situations things like for instance objects, animals, humans, wind, etc… interact with the surfaces of walls producing sound of which we usually aren’t aware of or paying no attention to. With the use of contact microphones these tiny ‘whispers’ have been captured and in some cases modified.
Whispering wall III was recorded in a small village called Boro in the Dogon area of Mali. It’s typical surface structure with it’s roughness of dried loam and pieces of millet drew my attention and tempted me to take a deeper investigation on it’s hidden secrets.
Mike Kramer has been creating light installations and environments since the beginning of the ninetees. From 1997 on he also started working as a sound artist doing numerous performances. His most recent works are mainly sound installations. Drawn by the untouchable media mentioned above he continues his researches.
Pierre Berthet
Sunday 29/11 at 16.00 u Intro in situ music and sound Maastricht
When one believes to hear a sound, it is rarely that of only one source. When one takes time to listen to it, one realizes that it is made of a multitude of more or less moving superimposed sounds. To those are all those added which one -more or less- hears without realizing it. This more or less perceived presence, gives qualities to the sound which make it possible to recognize. While playing with the sounds to explore the practical applications of this principle, I was brought to build various devices which surprise and even mislead my ears. www.pierre.berthet.be
