Art Tour 11: No Title

International, Underground and Autonomous

English press release
During the
Pentecost weekend22nd untill 24th of May, one will be able to enjoy contemporary art, design, sound and new media art forms in and surrounding the city of Maastricht. Unlike previous years, the Art Tour will this year have ‘No Title’ to ensure and underline the importance of the autonomy of art.  On Saturday 22nd of May, the Maastricht Art Tour will be initiated with its yearly  ‘Big Breakfast’ at the Timmerfabriek (TFB – central location, Boschstraat 5-9).

From the epicenter of the Art Tour, the Underground Art Tour sets off: a buoyant bike ride that takes you on a journey to artistic breeding grounds, art institutions and open studios where you can examine a selection of 200 artists. As always, more than 50 locations in the inner city and surrounding neighborhoods of Maastricht can be visited starting from Saturday until Monday. The Underground Art Tour presents you, in their natural habitats, a hybrid of international and national artists.

International, Underground and Autonomous;

In conform to the ambitions of Art Tour Maastricht, the event is obtaining an increasing international allure. Featuring artists, art initiatives and organizations from Aachen, Hasselt, Liege, Heerlen and Sittard-Geleen in the Timmerfabriek during the three-day event.  In addition to Art Tours focus on internationalization, emphasis is placed on young professional artists and autonomous breeding grounds for art. The Underground Art Tour allows you to explore a diverse selection of artists located in and around the city of Maastricht that give meaning and understanding of our zeitgeist.

In the inner city and surrounding neighborhoods you can admire: Freigeist FSTVL in the AINSI; Collective Home Made in Caberg; ArtSpace Rondeel Maastricht ARM, are renting out space for 17 cent/ m2 per day as a response to their landlord, Belvedere, lifting the rent to a skyrocketing figure; due to last years wagering success, the Elapsed Sound Art Tour in the city from Intro In situ; Open House CV Landbouwbelang, an anti-squat house as an artwork by itself; Art Tour in the Neighborhood Noord-Oost with Moving Art Maastricht in the Frankenstraat, Really not Real in Rijdam and of course not to forget, Huis met het Handje, KunstFront, Archief Studio Agore in the Jan van Eyck Academie and additional open studios on Sunday 23rd and Monday 24th of May.

Autonomy, that is the motto the Art Tour runs by. A three-day march of contemporary art, design, sound and new media art honoring the independent state of the human mind. Vital, in an environment where viewing numbers are setting the stage of our conscious reality, where greed is undermining the needs of our mother earth and desolate populism is taking a stand. A bleak atmosphere where open minds, the power of relevation, and critical eyes become indispensable. Undefined and label free, Art Tour No Title.
