Also in 2008 there will be an edition of the famous Maastricht ArtTour. Off course. This cultural event – for the 9th time in a row – is by now a part of the cultural (art) soul of the city. Every year thousands of people are gathering in the month of May in Maastricht to enjoy art, to be informed, to get irritated, compromised and even get fooled by everything Maastricht has to offer in professional art, new media and design.
The Art Tour is: open workshops/artstudios, special programs in the art institutes and cultural breeding places, expositions on location and in galleries. Yearly over 125 artists and dozens of galleries, art institutes and institutions take part at the ArtTour.
New this year: participation of the quarter Wittevrouwenveld, where visual artists expose and sell their work and will give a look behind the scenes in their workshops.
Also: participation of professional art institutes from the surrounding region of Maastricht (Heuvelland), the Tripool-city’s (Heerlen, Sittard-Geleen) and the Euregional city’s Genk, Hasselt, Aken.
In 2008 the ArtTour will take place in the weekend of 24th and 25th of May. With on Friday evening the spectacular opening event ArtTourNight.
The ArtTour doesn’t avoid discussions and quarrels with the establishment because that’s a part of art and artists. Therefore also this year: innovative new art, dynamical new locations and lots of young angry artists.
Keep in mind: Saturday the 24th and Sunday 25th of May from 11.00 am till 18.00 pm.
The central theme this year of the ArtTour will be 'Nudity'. But nudity as in naked. Naked as the truth. Free of spirit. Free of expression. Without conventions. Without judgement. That’s what it is about in the arts. Art has to confront. Create. Destroy. Construct. Not one brick can be lost in the construction of society. The ArtTour gives the professional artists a chance he or she cannot miss.
It’s not a coincidence that the central point of the ArtTour 2008 will be the former Timmerfabriek (Woodwork factory) of the Sphinx.
