Between 2000 and 2008 the Foundation Art2Connect created the basics for the ArtTour. The aim of this art event is to promote contemporary art for a general public and make is accessible. Over the past nine years Art2Connect managed to broaden the concept of the ArtTour within the target groups. The result is a broader range of the public, a professionalizing and a better continuity. Also more support among artists, local authorities, companies and the public was achieved.
The ArtTour was made possible between 2000 and 2008 for a part by means of subsidies and grants of the municipality of Maastricht, the province Limburg, Foundation Ateliers Maastricht (SAM), WOM Belvédère and grants from local businesses.
The visual arts and design from Maastricht and surroundings has proven over the last years that they are worthy enough to have a platform like the ArtTour, but that they also still need that same platform. That is why the foundation keeps on improving the concept ArtTour.
The foundation Art2Connect managed by organising special autonomous activities and projects parallel along the ArtTour to bring a connecting with young artists and a young public. Alongside the ArtTour the foundation wishes to stimulate innovating activities for and by young artists and for a young audience to link to new developments in the art.
Art2Connect produces itself no artistic result. It facilitates professional artists to be artistic and economical productive.
A concrete innovative project was 'URBAN MYTHS, NEW MEDIA'. An interactive New Media project with special attention for Game Design, DJ and VJ workshops, Digital photography and film, generative art, virtual performances and interactive digital art installations. There was an unorthodox co-operation with the (international) art institutes in Maastricht and the Euregion.
The aim of the art project UMNM is to make new media art more visible among a broader public. A second aim was to bring the artists into contact with each-other at a off-line and online spot. This was realised in a accessible way for young people, students ands professionals. Therefore the digital Urban Myths was invented. (for more information:www.urbanmyths.nl)
